Well this is the first Russian submarine, invented in around 1721. It got the nickname "a hidden vessel" for whatever reasons but it just still amazes me that there was a human being prepared to throw himself in that contraption. Apparently it was tested by that said nutter in front of Peter The Great not far from St Petersburg.
The picture above shows the lung if you like that stayed on the surface like a snorkel allowing the ocupant to breath.
Gotta love the oars man, as if they would work for long as you sank like a stone.
Looks like a giant beer keg project to me !!
